Fiberglass Pool Installation Steps:

  • Step 1. Pool Layout.
  • Using the spray paint draw the layout of the pool on the ground based on the permit, pool specifications and mesurements.
  • Step 2. Elevation Measurement.
  • Elevation and grade of the pool are two of the most often overlooked or miscalculated variable in the installation process.
  • Step 3. Excavation.
  • The excavation should be dug very close to the pool size with a minimum disturbance to the unexcavated soil which will support the pool. The clearance is approximately 6" on the sides and 6" on the ends. The depth of the excavation is determined with the use of a transit level and a measuring stick. The bottom of the excavation is over dug approximately 4".
  • Step 4. Preparation of the bottom surface of the excavation.
  • The preparation of the excavation bottom is critical so the pool will fit properly. Thorough preparation will eliminate settling, stress cracks and a minimum of time will be spent setting the pool.
  • Step 5. Setting the pool.
  • Your pool will arrive on a truck-trailer combination. A crane or excavator will lower the pool into the excavation. Once the pool is set in the excavation, the pool should be checked for level and the bottom should be walked over to detect any voids in the sand that might be present. The pool can be separated from the lifting equipment when the entire perimeter of the pool (including all transitions) leaves a clear footprint and the pool is within 1/2" of level.
  • Step 6. Water and backfill.
  • The process of water and backfill is staged and can be complicated for inexperienced installers.
  • Step 7. Plumbing.
  • When the water and backfill levels are close to reaching any of the pool inlets, the filling and backfilling process is stopped and plumbing begins. The plumbing pipes run along the excavation cavity and route them to the equipment site. After the plumbing is installed, than the filling and backfilling process will be complete.
  • Step 8. Electrical.
  • In some towns the installer or homeowner will not be qualified to do electrical work, than an electrician should be hired and a building official should inspect the work.
  • Step 9. Concrete or Masonry.
  • Depending on your preference the pool decking must be complete.
